He is the best player in NHL history, having won four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings in a surprising move that boosted the game's growth in non-traditional markets.
After a brief stint with the St. Louis Blues, he spent three seasons with the New York Rangers.
With the Stanley Cup Playoffs in full swing, Wayne Gretzky has weighed in on who he thinks will win it all later this summer.
"I think Carolina is a sleeper team, and I think they're destined to get to the Stanley Cup Finals this year," he said.
Of course, winning the Metropolitan Division with their best record since 2005-06 would be a great way to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their Cinderella run to the Finals in 2002. Gretzky believes Carolina will beat the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final.
