Goaltender Ève Gascon had 30 minutes of glory last night, as she was sent into the fray against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in a prep game. The 18-year-old turned aside 19 of the 20 shots she faced in the 5-1 win.
Remember that she was invited to the Gatineau Olympiques training camp recently. It seems that she is starting to impose herself in the Olympiques hierarchy. It would not be surprising if she forced the hand of the head coach and general manager of the Olympiques, Louis Robitaille. He was very impressed with his goalie's presence in net.
"I'm extremely happy with the way she played. She's confident, she's played some big games in her career and it seems like the pressure makes her even better. At the end of the first period, she made a couple of big saves on the short-handed. Overall, it was a great performance. We'll see what happens next. She can be happy with her performance."
Gascon seemed pretty confident for someone who has to make her way in an environment, which is a credit to her. It shows what kind of person she is : a fighter, a competitor.
"I was more excited than stressed. I know I can play here, I've shown it in practice. It's going well. I was excited to make the first stop. Once it was done, I was confident."
It will be very interesting to follow the next step of the goaltender sensation.
