As you know, this morning P.K. Subban announced his retirement from the National Hockey League.
A big page has officially been turned:
And as you know, during the off-season, there were many rumours that Subban could be sent to the Montreal Canadiens (via a professional tryout or a one-season contract).
Turns out those rumours weren't completely unreal after all.
Reporter Patrick Lortie is on to a big story right now. There's nothing 100% certain, but it's from a reliable source:
"I can't confirm 100 per cent if this is true, but two different NHL employees told me that P.K. Subban had his eyes on a reunion with the Habs, or one last chance to win the Cup with the Leafs. Those were the only two options on his mind. When both doors closed, he was done (with hockey).
At 33, he wanted to choose where he wanted to end his career. He knew the back problems would keep him from being the P.K. of old, but he still had gas left in the tank for one more season."
Wow, that's major! You have to take this with a grain of salt, but two National Hockey League staffers suggest that the only two teams Subban wanted to sign with were Montreal and Toronto.
So he had a real interest in coming to play for the CH. Finally, we know what happened next and Subban is looking forward.
More details will follow!
