The 62nd overall pick of the Habs in the last draft never ceases to amaze. He dominated again yesterday in a 5-3 win over the University of Maine.
Hutson had no less than four assists for Boston University.
So far this season, he has scored 35 points in 25 games in his rookie year in the NCAA. He is making history.
We assumed that Lane Hutson would eventually play for the Montreal Canadiens, but with him playing in the NCAA and still without a contract, it was by no means certain.
Talk about the Calgary Flames, who had to trade star defenseman Adam Fox because he wouldn't sign with them.
There are also several other recent examples where a young American playing in the NCAA decides not to sign with the team that drafted him, and instead tests his autonomy completely.
That was a risk with Hutson, but not anymore.
Lane Hutson is already revealing his intentions and the verdict is in.
Just recently, Marc Dumont of Montreal Hockey Now spoke with the amazing Hutson, and he clearly revealed his intentions for the first time.
Wow! We love it and it couldn't be clearer. Hutson has absolutely no intention of emulating an Adam Fox or a Jimmy Vesey. He will sign with the team that drafted him and the only team he wants to play for is the Montreal Canadiens.
He is also very realistic:
There's no rush in his case, and he needs to continue to develop (and dominate in the NCAA), like a certain Cale Makar did. Because yes, Hutson's numbers compare favorably to Makar's at the same age.
