There is action in the Sean Monahan file on the trade market as Hughes receives interesting calls

If you were told that Sean Monahan would be the Habs' fourth leading scorer after 21 games before the season started, few would have thought that possible, especially given his injury history over the past few years.

While many saw Monahan as only passing through Montreal due to his free agent status at the end of the season, there is now much more talk of a possible new contract instead of a possible trade in his case.

But as Patrick Beauséjour of Fanadiens.com reports, some tipsters, such as Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, believe that Kent Hughes will be able to use Monahan as a bargaining chip, and that his value would currently be very good. According to him, he could very well be at the top of many teams' lists when the trade deadline arrives.

So there is some movement on the trade market for Sean Monahan, and it will be interesting to see if Kent Hughes will be tempted by an offer (or not).

One thing is for sure, interest in him remains high, Hughes' phone is ringing off the hook for Monahan and he is now one of the most coveted players on the trade market.

A decision to be made

But as for Anthony Marcotte, the radio voice of the Laval Rocket, he rather believes that Kent Hughes should offer him a new contract because he fits perfectly with the organization's new philosophy.

In any case, we can say that the organization was right in acquiring Monahan last August and that the worst possible scenario, for now, would be a considerable return in the event of a transaction but as we know, Monahan has had a fragile health in recent years and the organization is not immune to such misfortune.

But for now, we can say that the number 91 is doing a great job for the Habs and let's hope that it continues in this direction.

The upcoming decision will be fascinating.
