However, Kent Hughes still has a lot of work to do, as the surplus of players on the roster is still present and it would not be surprising if a trade were to occur in the next few weeks.
But as we know, the Habs GM is not in the habit of making a trade simply to get rid of a player, and as reported by Vincent Fournier of LetsGoHabs.com, the identities of the players that could bring in interesting value for Kent Hughes are now known.
In a post on the Montreal Hockey Now blog, tipster Marco D'Amico mentioned that currently, there are three Habs players who would have interesting value on the trade market (and they would be targeted for a possible upcoming deal).
Unfortunately for fans, Evgenii Dadonov is not one of them. Instead, it's Sean Monahan, Christian Dvorak and Joel Edmundson.
In the case of Monahan, he will be free agents without compensation at the end of the season and it is very likely that he changes address before the trade deadline. There is even talk of a fairly high return as he could provide a nice boost to a team looking for depth heading into the playoffs.
Edmundson could easily be a top 4 D-man on a contending team looking to add depth on defence.
As for Dvorak, Renaud Lavoie recently mentioned that if Kent Hughes puts him on the market, he would demand nothing less than a first round pick in return for his services. However, he is still under contract next year and I don't think the Habs are in a hurry to trade him since he has done a great job on the second line since the beginning of the season.
