According to information reported by the excellent journalist Pierre Lebrun, from TSN and The Athletic, the Toronto Maple Leafs have officially been linked to forward Sam Gagner, who is the best friend of John Tavares.
Gagner, 32, has been playing with the Detroit Red Wings since 2019.
He has 31 points, including 13 goals, in 81 games for them this season.
Gagner will be free as a bird (unrestricted free agent), as his one-year, $850,000 contract with the Red Wings expires this summer.
Will Toronto sign Tavares' childhood friend? Don't be surprised if it's announced in a few weeks.
