Times are changing, and attitudes are shifting in the National Hockey League, and over the past few months, an interesting trend has emerged.
Teams are increasingly bringing back players that their fan base has long clamored for.
A prime example is the Boston Bruins, who brought back Milan Lucic on a one-year contract worth one million dollars.
Then there are the Philadelphia Flyers, who are reportedly close to offering Wayne Simmonds a professional tryout contract to bring him back to the city (and subsequently offer him a one-year contract).
In his prime years in Philadelphia, Simmonds was a real thorn in the side of the Montreal Canadiens and was truly loved by their fans.
In short, noticing this trend of team management increasingly listening to their fans, and considering that Wayne Simmonds might need a spot in the Flyers' lineup, we wanted to explore the following possibility.
What if Deslauriers was brought back by the Montreal Canadiens?
What if Kent Hughes managed such a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers to bring back Nicolas Deslauriers?
Deslauriers, a 32-year-old native of LaSalle, earns only $1.75 million per season (until 2026).
Last season with the Flyers, he tallied 12 points and 136 penalty minutes in 80 games.
Would you give up a 3rd or 4th round pick to bring him back to the city? He could be a strong presence on the fourth line, potentially replacing Joel Armia, and he'd be a solid asset for the younger players.
