In a recent interview with the excellent Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was once again extremely transparent.

Asked if the rumours are true, if he is currently active on the trade market, Kent Hughes did not hesitate for a second.

So, has Hughes tried to make any trades recently?

"Yes," he answers as honestly as he can. We're still in discussions with the other teams. I've had several conversations in the car today. We are still at a point where the first quarter of the season is behind us. All the clubs are starting to make calls to inquire about the availability of certain players." - Reported by Anthony Martineau

So it's possible that a trade is indeed on the table. Of course, let's remember that for the past few days, rumors have been circulating that the Habs are currently trying to trade some fairly high-paid forwards, in order to free up some space on the payroll.

Names like Sean Monahan, Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman (among others) are coming up.

Greetings to Anthony Martineau for going straight to the source.
