The Habs are now well past the halfway point of the season, and while the team's two goaltenders, Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault, are doing well, it's not assured that they will be the long-term solution in front of the Habs' net.

While it was thought that Cayden Primeau was ready to take the next step, especially with his great performance in front of the Laval Rocket last spring, that doesn't seem to be the case this season. This means that Kent Hughes will have a lot of work to do in the next few years to find a successor to Carey Price.

That's actually what tipster Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now has been looking into, and as reported by Alex Néron of Fanadiens.com, there are three interesting candidates that could be acquired via the trade market.

We are talking about Daniil Tarasov of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Devon Levi of the Buffalo Sabres and also Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames organization.

We had already mentioned Wolf and Levi but as for Tarasov, some scouts see in him an excellent potential but with Elvis Merzlikins under contract in Columbus until 2026, it could be that the Blue Jackets are tempted to give him to another team.

He has played 16 career NHL games and has maintained a 2-10-1 record with a 3.31 goals-against average.

As for the other two, Levi and Wolf, they are in much the same situation as Tarasov, with a lot of obstacles ahead of them to compete for the number one goaltending job with their respective teams.

Do you think Kent Hughes could try to start a discussion with his counterparts in Columbus, Buffalo and Calgary for a possible trade?
