Despite some roster changes, the Habs are still stuck with the salary cap and will have to release some contracts by training camp. While Jeff Petry is expected to leave the team soon via trade, another veteran could also find himself under other skies in the coming weeks.
Jonathan Drouin's name has been associated with several trade rumors in the last few weeks and since the Quebec forward will be playing his last year of contract, it is expected that the 2022-2023 season will be his last in a Habs uniform.
But with Kent Hughes needing to find a way to free up some money, Cimon Asselin of Habsolumentfan.com went with this trade proposal with the Buffalo Sabres.
To Buffalo: Jonathan Drouin
To Montreal: Anders Bjork
Well okay, this is a pretty marginal player you will tell me, but should this deal go through, the Habs would save $3.9 million on their payroll and Bjork will be a free agent at the end of next season.
Obviously, it would be surprising if this trade happened and I expect Drouin to start the season in Montreal and with a little luck, especially if he manages to avoid the injury list, the number 92 could finally show what he's got and increase his value when the trade deadline comes next winter.
