Considering the fact that Monahan earns $6.375 million per year, and considering the fact that the Habs have no leeway under the NHL salary cap, many observers wonder how the CH will be able to absorb Monahan's salary.
So what could this mean?
Two observers have raised the possibility of Carey Price and Paul Byron being placed on the long-term injured list.
That would mean that the Monahan trade would mean bad news for Price (and Byron).
Let's wait and see, but know that it's a possibility. See the publications in question:
As reported by our colleagues at Fanadiens.com, if this scenario plays out, that would leave Kent Hughes with $13.9 million available on the payroll to maneuver.
Let's also remember of course Kirby Dach's contract, which is not yet settled. (this will be another salary to add)
We remind you that this is an OPTION and nothing is confirmed. These are points that Book and Lortie bring here. If Kent Hughes doesn't trade another big contract soon and just acquires Monahan, then we really need to start worrying about Carey.
