As we reported yesterday, one of the worst possible scenes occurred during an EIHL hockey game, a professional league in the UK.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins player Adam Johnson was struck by a skate to the neck.
The scene was horrifying, and fans in attendance said it was the worst thing they've ever witnessed in a hockey game in their lives.
The arena was even evacuated, and the over 8,000 spectators were asked to leave.
Johnson was in critical condition, and sadly, we have just received the worst news possible.
Johnson has passed away. We are at a loss for words.
See the official statement.
We are devastated.
This player was in perfect health yesterday morning, preparing to play his game, and today he is no longer with us.
Our thoughts sincerely go out to his family and loved ones.
