On Thursday night, Trevor Zegras completely mystified goaltender Samuel Montembeault with the fourth "Michigan" goal in NHL history. It was a beautiful play, which obviously made the news around of the league.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov, who scored twice, congratulated Zegras on Twitter. The Russian even took the opportunity to challenge the Ducks' young sensation to see who would be the next to repeat the feat.
"Great goal! Let's see who will score next," he wrote.
Hostilities are on! Old school fans like John Tortorella may not like to see these kinds of goals, but it's exciting to see players like Zegras and Svechnikov, who represent the present and future of the league, challenge each other like this.
This saga is also yet another example of how the NHL has probably never had as much talent in its history as it does right now. The next "Michigan" goal could just as easily be scored by another player for whom it would be a first.
