Don't forget that the trade market is always present and some issues will certainly attract attention this year, such as the future of Jeff Petry and Jonathan Drouin with the Canadiens.
Obviously, it will be interesting to watch what happens elsewhere in the NHL during the summer season, but as reported by Simon Jolicoeur of Marqueur.com, the status of two star players has reportedly changed in recent weeks.
According to an article in The Hockey News, forwards Mark Scheifele and Vladimir Tarasenko are unfortunately no longer available for trade. This is a turnaround, especially in the case of Tarasenko who had openly requested a trade on several occasions.
In the case of Scheifele, he had expressed some doubts about his future with the Winnipeg Jets during the team's post-season review, but his general manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, recently mentioned that he expected his star forward to start the next season in Manitoba and attributed his comments to the disappointing season the Jets had.
As for Tarasenko, we remember that last year he was not protected by the St. Louis Blues in the Seattle Kraken expansion draft and many experts believed that the Russian forward was on the trade market. He was definitely headed for a trade.
Things have changed recently and at the Blues' post-season wrap-up, general manager Doug Armstrong couldn't have been clearer: his player should be back at his position for the start of next training camp. Tarasenko had a career-best 82 points, including 34 goals, in 75 games and added nine points in 12 playoff games.
Sure, there are some star players that could be traded this summer, but if you were to bet money on it, you'd probably have to take Scheifele and Tarasenko off your list or you'll lose money!
