His name has been circulating a lot in the trade rumors lately and the Dallas Stars could very well acquire him, especially since John Klingberg declared that he would test the free agent market starting July 13th.
With Petry gone, this will create a hole on the right side of the defense for the Habs. Sportsnet tipster Elliotte Friedman mentioned on the 32 Thoughts podcast that Kent Hughes may very well have interest in Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tyson Barrie.
Like the Habs, Oilers GM Ken Holland will be stuck with the salary cap next year and will have to release some contracts and Barrie's is still good for two seasons at $4.5 million a year.
One might immediately think of a one-for-one trade between Petry and Barrie, but as reported by Marco Normandin, of Habsolumentfan.com, one internet user went to a very interesting suggestion to bring the right-handed defenseman to Montreal.
Indeed, a person named NeilT proposed, on Twitter, a trade between the Oilers and the Canadiens in which Tyson Barrie would come to Montreal in exchange for forward Mike Hoffman.
Okay, I want to mention here that this is a suggestion from an internet user and not a true rumor, but I have to say that this proposal makes sense for both organizations.
Barrie could very well replace Petry in the Habs lineup and as for Hoffman, he could benefit from a new start elsewhere and who knows, he could literally explode with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Moreover, Hoffman has two years left on his contract for a salary of 4.5 million per year, exactly the same terms as Barrie.
This would not disrupt the other hot files of both teams and if Evander Kane is not back with the Oilers next year, Hoffman could be an interesting plan B.
