In the last few days, the rumors of Pierre-Luc Dubois being sent to the Montreal Canadiens have resurfaced, because he has revealed his intentions and has announced that he does not want to stay with the Winnipeg Jets (long term).

There's more, right here:

Dubois would not even hide his desire to play in Montreal eventually. It could happen in two years, in the summer of 2024, when the forward would normally become an unrestricted free agent and therefore, free as a bird.

On the other hand, if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton don't want to wait until 2024 and if they don't want to take the risk of another team acquiring him and signing him long-term, there is always the option of making a trade with the Jets.

During his famous Insider Trading segment yesterday, reporter Darren Dreger (TSN) talked about this and confirmed that the CH is in this deal. On the other hand, the price tag may have dampened the spirits of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.

As reported by Felix Forget (DansLesCoulisses.com), Dreger gave the Rangers, as an example:

"(Dreger) said it would take a high-caliber prospect (he brings up the names Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko and Braden Schneider) along with a first-round pick. I don't know if it would take more than one prospect on this list, but hey." - DLC.com

So if we look at the Habs side, it would look like this:

IN MONTREAL: Pierre-Luc Dubois

TO WINNIPEG: Kaiden Guhle and a first round pick (and maybe more).

So we see that it is expensive, very expensive and probably too expensive for Kent Hughes. It should be noted here that Dreger gives the example of the New York Rangers, because they are currently negotiating intensely, with Winnipeg, to try to acquire Dubois.

They really want him and they are clearly the Canadiens' biggest rivals in this matter.

Knowing all this, would you like Kent Hughes to try to acquire him immediately, or would you rather he try to sign him in 2024?

Dubois, a 24-year-old native of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, has 60 points (28 goals) in 81 games this season with the Jets. He was drafted third overall in 2016 by the Columbus Blue Jackets and was traded from the Jackets to the Jets in January 2021 for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic.
