He really wanted to be traded to the U.S., for family reasons.
On Saturday, his wish was granted and he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins (in exchange for Michael Matheson).
However, we just learned that Petry is not the only player involved in this trade who asked to be traded.
Ryan Poehling (who was traded to the Penguins along with Petry) has just revealed, in a press conference, that he too had asked the Montreal Canadiens for a trade.
It's interesting because it's new information, which had never leaked to the media before today, but he just confirmed it himself.
The story doesn't say when he made the request, but it doesn't really matter at this point. It will certainly be interesting to see if he can do better in Pittsburgh with this new start.
In the end, Kent Hughes will have received a fourth round pick for Poehling in the Jeff Petry for Michael Matheson trade.
Looking back, are you satisfied with this move?
Poehling, 23, was drafted 25th overall in 2017 by the Montreal Canadiens. He had 6 points in 7 games with the Laval Rocket in 2021-22 as well as 17 points in 57 games with the CH.
