In the last few hours, after a few weeks of lulls, trade rumors involving Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun have picked up quite a bit.

Chychrun has publicly asked for a trade, something we see very rarely and that may speed up the process.

However, the Coyotes' asking price for their strong defenseman remains extremely high at three to four quality pieces.

The requested return could look something like this:

- Two first round picks

- One solid prospect

- An NHL caliber player

Anyway, in the wake of this saga, reporters Craig Morgan (Arizona) and Bruce Garrioch revealed a very interesting piece of information.

"At the draft in Montreal, the Columbus Blue Jackets believed they had just acquired Jakob Chychrun. They believed they had a "deal" in place with the Coyotes for Chychrun, but Chychrun's camp reportedly called it off."

That would have been major! Imagine if Gary Bettman had stood at the podium, in the middle of the Bell Centre, to announce such a major deal.

It would have been great for the show, especially since one imagines that the Blue Jackets' sixth overall pick, which they had in the draft in Montreal, must surely have been involved.

In the end, Columbus drafted defenseman David Jiricek with that pick.

Chychrun, 24, had 21 points in 47 games with the Coyotes in 2021-2022, as well as an impressive 41 points (18 goals) in just 56 games in 2020-2021. He earns $4.6 million per year through 2025.
