Shane Wright has been getting a lot of attention since the beginning of the season, as he has been consistently dropped from the Seattle Kraken's lineup and has hardly played at all.
This is nothing to calm the speculations and rumors about the reasons behind his surprising slide in the 2022 draft. The man who was normally expected to go first or second overall ended up sliding all the way to the fourth pick.
When asked about this on the most recent episode of his "32 Thoughts" podcast, top tipster Elliotte Friedman gave a possible reason for Shane Wright's "slide" in the Bell Centre draft.
It would be because of his refusal to go play in Europe during the pandemic, which resulted in him missing a full year of hockey (and development). Moreover, his explanation to justify his decision did not please the teams that drafted him in the top-3.
"According to "new" information on the matter, Wright's failure to play elsewhere during the OHL freeze tickled many. Plus, he likely had no answers to offer when teams asked why he didn't go the other way to continue his development, [...]" - Jeff Drouin
So that would have effectively bothered several organizations, including the Montreal Canadiens. Some perceived it as almost a lack of dedication and interest. (At least, it doesn't show a huge passion for the game)
Friedman adds this:
"Keeping Wright with Seattle where he doesn't play much doesn't seem like an ideal situation."
To be continued!
Either way, we wish the best of luck to young Wright in getting back on track and having a good season. The talent is still there.
Do you think the possible reason Friedman mentioned is enough to explain his slide? Would it have turned you off personally?
