With all the big absentees in front of the net, including Carey Price (injury), Jake Allen (COVID-19) and Cayden Primeau (COVID-19), it's Samuel Montembeault who will be Dominique Ducharme's go-to guy.

He will be assisted by Michael McNiven, the Laval Rocket's second goaltender in normal circumstances. The Habs is literally in trouble between the posts.

It hasn't been said, but from what we can tell, the Habs hasn't trusted Montembeault at all since he arrived in town. When Jake Allen was injured, shortly before he contracted the virus, it was Cayden Primeau who guarded the net, not the Quebecer, who, remember, was labeled as the second goalie. It's a rather nebulous situation.

Journal de Montréal reporter Mathieu Boulay then jokingly offered some suggestions for taking over.

He wondered if the Habs would contact former crowd favorite Patrick Roy to help the team in front of the net. He even mentioned names like Brian Hayward and Charlie Lindgren...

We've come a long way, but we have to admit it's a pretty comical thinking! 🤣
