It will really be interesting to monitor the battle between Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault, during Montreal's training camp, to determine who will be the number one goaltender for the Canadiens to start the season.

To talk about that, but also about several other files, Samuel was a guest on the podcast «BeFocus», by Sam Duchesneau.

We are talking about it today mainly because the Quebecer goaltender dropped some rather worrying information.

Unless mistaken, this had never been publicly revealed.

«Yeah. He's 100%. He had hurt his back, but now, he's okay.»

Samuel Montembeault, on Jake Allen

So, Allen was struggling with back problems. Ouch.

It's good news to know he's okay, but it's obviously worrying because, as we saw with Joel Edmundson last season, back injuries are extremely treacherous and can come back at any time.

And so, it was his back that veteran goaltender Allen was struggling with at the end of the season.

«Montembeault undoubtedly saw his colleague suffering from back pain, and he can't remember everything that the CH says publicly, which means he talked about the back in the case of Jake Allen. Let's not blame the Quebecois in all this.»

Charles-Alexis Brisebois

Well said! Montembeault absolutely should not be blamed here.

It would be so much easier if, like in the NFL, NHL teams were more transparent about injuries.

It would prevent players from always having to watch what they say.

In short, Montembeault had only positive things to say about Allen, and we are eager to see who will have a good camp and who will secure the #1 spot.
