Jesperi Kotkaniemi is still without a contract and is one of the restricted free agents still waiting for a deal. Many people are wondering about him since he has not yet shown the consistency that he could have so far. There are also questions about whether he will be able to play the second center role for the Montreal Canadiens next season.
In view of his next pact, which will be his second in the NHL, it's hard to imagine that "KK" will get a multi-season deal. It will be a small bridge contract of a year or two at most. He still has so much to prove before he gets a multi-season deal... By the way, Yvon Pedneault spoke about the future contract that Kotkaniemi will get with the Montreal Canadiens. The veteran journalist seems to know things we don't!
"Unlike Dahlin and Tkachuk, who are eyeing deals between $8 and $9 million, and Svechkinov, who is coveting a deal for a few seasons between $6 and $7 million, Kotkaniemi has missed the first three years and a $1.5 million deal is being advanced."
I remind you that Rasmus Dahlin, Andrei Svechnikov and Brady Tkachuk are in the same boat as Kotkaniemi, but these three are key players in their respective teams, while "KK" has yet to reach that level. Since the beginning of his career, the Finn has collected a total of 62 points, including 22 goals, in 171 games. However, he has shown the ability to stand up in some important moments.
So, $1.5 million for one year, Jesperi?
