The general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, has officially shown the door to a forward on the team.

It's over for Ty Smilanic.

As reported by my colleagues at Marqueur, after showing the exit to Rhett Pitlick, Kent Hughes had until last night to make a decision on the young Smilanic.

Clearly, Ty Smilanic was not signed by the Canadiens before the deadline, and therefore, he is no longer a prospect belonging to the organization.

Kent Hughes has made his choice.

The Canadiens Officially Release Ty Smilanic

Montreal had until August 15 (last night) at 5 p.m. to offer him an entry-level contract.

That wasn't done, and so, Kent Hughes has indeed chosen to release Smilanic.

With the surplus of prospects within the Montreal Canadiens, this isn't surprising, as Smilanic had really fallen far down in the hierarchy.

We wish him the best of luck moving forward and sincerely hope he finds a new organization.

Ty Smilanic, 22 years old, is a 6-foot-1, 174-pound forward. He was a third-round pick of the Florida Panthers in 2020, and he was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in the Ben Chiarot trade (in 2022).

Last season, he recorded 7 points in 31 games with the Trois-Rivières Lions.

Details to follow.
