In the last few minutes, we received a hard-to-swallow announcement involving the young defenseman Lane Hutson.

It's sad, but he was completely overlooked for the prestigious Hobey Baker Trophy. This ends his hopes of making history and lifting this ultimate individual NCAA honor.

The three finalists have just been named, and here they are.

«Jackson Blake, North Dakota (CAR)

Macklin Celebrini, BU (2024)

Cutter Gauthier, BC (ANA)»

Blake, 20 years old, scored 59 points in 39 games this season with North Dakota. He is a fourth-round pick of the Hurricanes in 2021.

Gauthier, 20 years old, scored 64 points in 39 games this season with Boston College. He is a first-round pick of the Flyers in 2022, but was traded to the Anaheim Ducks.

Celebrini, 17 years old, scored 64 points in 37 games this season with Boston University. He will be drafted first overall in 2024.

Hutson, 20 years old, scored 50 points in 38 games this season with Boston University. He is a second-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2022.

Lane Hutson is the only defenseman on this list, and according to many, he definitely deserved to be among the three finalists!

Why prefer Blake over Hutson? In any case, it's likely to cause quite a stir in town.

Even Will Smith got robbed. He too really deserved a nomination.
