Alex Barré-Boulet was the only signing by Kent Hughes, and even though he has a one-year, one-way contract, it is not guaranteed that the forward from Montmagny will make the Canadiens' lineup at the start of the season.
That said, as reported by the Marqueur website, an article published by TVA Sports suggests three players who are still available and could give Martin St-Louis's men a good boost for the upcoming season.
The names of these three players may surprise, as there are still some notable players without contracts, such as James van Riemsdyk, Filip Zadina, Dominik Kubalik, and Mike Hoffman... let's just say in the case of Hoffman, we'll pass!
Sprong's case is interesting, as the former QMJHL player has just had two consecutive seasons of at least 40 points and found a way to produce despite limited playing time last year with the Detroit Red Wings.
As for Tyler Johnson, he is still capable of producing offensively on a third line, as he proved with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023-2024 with a tally of 17 goals in 67 games.
Finally, with Nylander, William's brother had an interesting end to the season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, recording 15 points, including 11 goals, in 23 games after being traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he definitely no longer had a place.
Even if one of these three forwards would not necessarily become an impact player on the team, it remains that Kent Hughes wouldn't be breaking the bank by taking a chance with one of these three players.
