Major development for Jayden Struble and goalie Devon Levi
Last night, there was an important development concerning two prospects to closely monitor for Montreal Canadiens fans. As reported by Eric Engels and Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, it concerns young players Jayden Struble and Devon Levi (goalie).
"Northeastern loses their last game of the season, 2-1 against Providence. We'll see what that means for Jayden Struble. He has time to make a decision, but he belongs to the Canadiens for the moment, and I'm sure they'd like to sign him." - Engels
"Earlier tonight, Providence defeated Northeastern 2-1 in the Hockey East quarterfinals. Upcoming decisions include Devon Levi (BUF wants to sign him), Jayden Struble (MTL), and Aidan McDonough (who should sign with VCR)." - Friedman
These are cases to closely follow over the next few hours, especially in the cases of Struble and Levi.
Struble could sign and finish the season with the Montreal Canadiens, but according to his most recent statements, it doesn't seem to be a done deal, and there is a real risk that the team may not be able to sign him (and lose him for nothing). A very significant situation to monitor!
Struble, the 46th overall pick of the CH in 2019, is 21 years old, and he has accumulated 12 points in 31 games this season in the NCAA.
Let's also keep an eye on Devon Levi
The goalie whose name has been most frequently linked to the Montreal Canadiens over the past few months. It will be up to him to decide whether he wants to:
Sign with the Buffalo Sabres (who currently hold his rights)
Sign with the team of his choice (such as the Montreal Canadiens).
Recall that Levi is from Dollard-des-Ormeaux and would likely become the Habs' future goalie.
Will he be tempted? To be determined, but Kent Hughes would undoubtedly be extremely interested.
If we don't learn in the next few days that Levi signed with Buffalo, it will be a very good sign for the Tricolore.
So these are two big issues! Which one would you prefer to see more in Montreal?
Levi, 21, has incredible statistics in the NCAA:
Average of 1.54, 10 shutouts in 32 games, save percentage of 0.952
Average of 2.24, 6 shutouts in 34 games, save percentage of 0.933.
