It already seems confirmed that Mantha will be traded this summer. Kent Hughes will likely inquire about him, but there may be many interested clubs.
This morning on BPM Sports, the excellent Bob Hartley had a very interesting discussion with Jean Charles Lajoie on this topic, as part of his regular column.
Mike Hoffman's name entered the conversation.
Hartley, who is obviously a great hockey mind, has likely dampened the enthusiasm of several Montreal Canadiens fans.
He confirmed that Mantha indeed has a lot of skills, is capable of scoring goals in bunches, and his potential remains high, but his effort level is often suboptimal and questioned.
And if you look at their career trajectories, he seems to be spot on.
Hoffman also had seasons with nearly 40 goals and 70-point campaigns. We see the result today.
Would it be good for the Canadiens to acquire a Mike Hoffman, 5 years younger, at $5.7 million?
Asking the question is answering it.
Jean Charles Lajoie and Bob Hartley seem to agree that Anthony Mantha isn't necessarily a good solution for the Canadiens.
