This is undoubtedly the story that has caused the most buzz today in the world of hockey, and it's the name that has circulated the most in the past few hours, but the forced trade of Cutter Gauthier was even discussed in the locker room of the Montreal Canadiens earlier today.

For those who are not aware of the context, it's important to know that last night, Philadelphia announced a major trade with the Anaheim Ducks.

A trade involving Cutter Gauthier and Jamie Drysdale, two young potential future NHL stars.

The transaction happened because the young Gauthier simply decided he did not want to play with the Flyers, not even two years after being drafted by them.

In fact, he didn't even want to talk to them. Quite a story.

Matheson never considered imitating Gauthier and turning his back on the team that drafted him!

In short, Mike Matheson, also a first-round pick who had the option not to sign with the team that gave him his first chance in the NHL, had this to say:

« Mike Matheson does not know Cutter Gauthier, nor his motivations, he made sure to clarify this morning.

But he still agreed to reveal how he experienced being selected in the first round in 2012.

We understand that he would have acted... differently. »

A loyal and faithful guy, this Matheson!

We are absolutely not surprised by his response, knowing Matheson, but it says a lot, let's say.

Matheson was drafted in the first round in 2012 by the Florida Panthers, while he was playing with Boston College (like Cutter Gauthier).

He signed with them in 2015.
