As you know, the Montreal Canadiens resolved a major issue today by signing goaltender Samuel Montembeault to a three-year contract.

Many experts believe this will be the trigger to once and for all settle the goalie trio and give Montembeault the #1 role.

Because yes, he needs to play more.

Will it be Cayden Primeau or Jake Allen who will be affected?

Many observers believe it will be the veteran Allen.

The next question, therefore, is what his value is on the trade market.

Unfortunately, according to many, we should lower our expectations. Experts like Frank Seravalli and David Pagnotta are not convinced of his high value.

Also see what the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin just mentioned.

"If Kent Hughes can find a taker for Jake Allen without having to spend an asset to trade him, that's the route that should be taken, in my opinion.

Cayden Primeau has been good this season (except for 2-3 periods) and his age/contract makes much more sense for the CH."

This is not exactly what he said, but it matches what some are suggesting.

Just getting rid of Jake Allen's contract and creating very valuable cap space for this summer could be an interesting gain for Kent Hughes.

With what players like Anthony Beauvillier and Nikita Zadorov have brought in, it puts things into perspective.

A point to keep in mind, then!
