In the last few minutes, renowned insider Frank Seravalli confirmed a huge rumor initiated last night by Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet.

Filip Zadina's contract with the Red Wings will be terminated. Wow.

Detroit made this decision, in part to gain some flexibility for a trade involving forward Alex DeBrincat.

This means that Zadina will be completely free and can sign a contract with the team of his choice. He is likely to sign a one-season deal with an annual value around $900,000.

"I'm being told that the Red Wings are going to place Filip Zadina on unconditional NHL waivers at noon today with the intent of mutually terminating the contract.

Zadina is foregoing the remaining $4.56 million on his contract, seeking a fresh start elsewhere. Tremendous courage to bet on himself."

This could be a great opportunity for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to attempt another "Kirby Dach-style" move and offer a fresh start to a player bursting with talent who can still bloom.

This is a bet that carries no risk and could pay off big, if the CH signs Zadina for a year at $900,000.

Would you do it?

It could be really interesting to take this chance, especially since the risk is very slim.

We're talking here about a 23-year-old player who was compared to David Pastrnak in his draft year.

Zadina, the 6th overall pick in 2018, has scored 68 points (28 goals) in the NHL, as well as 17 points (10 goals) in his last 23 AHL matches.

Stay tuned for updates over the next few hours.
