Major: the Leafs have submitted a trade offer to the Canadiens and we have the details
As you know, the Montreal Canadiens still have three goalies in their NHL lineup to start the year 2024, despite the many attempts by general manager Kent Hughes to make a trade to resolve this issue.
Elliotte Friedman recently mentioned that Hughes is indeed in the category of 'sellers' of goalies, that he is trying to trade one, but that he also wants to obtain a reasonable price in exchange for Cayden Primeau or Jake Allen.
Here's why Kent Hughes hasn't traded Jake Allen or Cayden Primeau yet
It's rare, but we finally have information on a concrete offer made to the Habs, and let's just say it's very disappointing.
After placing Ilya Samsonov on the NHL waivers and after losing the services of their solid young goalie Joseph Woll (injury), the Maple Leafs wanted to acquire a goalie via trade.
Their offer? A SIXTH round pick. Ouch.
«Elliotte Friedman says that the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving, offered to several teams a sixth-round pick for a goalie, which every team refused. He would have hoped that a team would be desperate enough to trade one.
Luke Fox of Sportsnet speculates that Dan Vladar (Flames), Jake Allen (Canadiens), Eric Comrie (Sabres), and Anton Forsberg (Senators) were among the goalies targeted by Toronto.» You can understand why Kent Hughes refused.
And why give this gift and help the Maple Leafs out of their bind?
Allen, 33 years old, has a record of 4-7-2 this season, a goals-against average of 3.40, and a save percentage of 0.903. He earns 3.85 million per season until the summer of 2025.
What is he worth, in your opinion? In any case, more than a 6th round pick!
