No doubt, some players are in their very last season with the Habs, but which ones?
That's exactly the question an expert from The Hockey Writers tried to answer.
According to Ryan Szporer, here are six CH players who would have officially played their last season in Montreal.
Chris Tierney
He was acquired via waivers to add depth due to Montreal's countless injuries this year, but unfortunately he probably won't be back next year. His contract is up this summer.
He will be as free as a bird this summer and he might command a pretty hefty salary. A case to follow, but at the right price, it would be nice to re-sign him if he comes back healthy.
Even if he is a good defenseman for the Laval Rocket, he never managed to make it in the NHL. He will be free as a bird this summer.
Just like Sean Monahan, he will be a free agent this summer and he will be able to sign with the team of his choice. Will he get a second chance in Montreal? It seems unlikely at this point.
Paul Byron
Unfortunately, his career could simply be over due to injuries. His body has abandoned him.
This is the most surprising name on this list, because he is still under contract for next season.
There have been extremely numerous trade rumors about him in recent weeks, and they could pick up again this summer, especially if Kent Hughes can acquire a valuable 2023 1st round pick in exchange for his veteran defenseman, but that would be a surprise.
If "Eddy" ever leaves, it could be more at the next deadline or in the summer of 2024. His name is surprisingly on this list, but we expect to see him again next fall.
Which ones (on this list) do you think are currently playing their final season with the Montreal Canadiens?
