Star players William Nylander and Elias Lindholm for the Montreal Canadiens: a solid source has just looked into the matter
Since he took over as general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes has been rather timid when it came time to sign unrestricted free agents.
But things could change next summer as the CH organization will undoubtedly want to get a top player through the free agent market.
As reported byWilliam Boivin, of website Rumeursdetransaction.com, two top forwards will become free agents on July 1st; Elias Lindholm and especially a certain William Nylander.
Willy is having a thunderous season with the Maple Leafs and as we know, he is likely to be quite greedy in terms of salary for his next contract. Several experts even suggest that Nylander would aim for a deal bringing in around 10 million dollars per season.
That said, several million dollars will be freed up on the Canadiens' salary cap for the 2024-2025 season, and there are many rumors about adding a star player who would truly help the Montreal organization reach a new level and become competitive as early as next year.
This is at least what Sportsnet insider Eric Engels stated in a recent column. He firmly believes that Kent Hughes will have a lot of interest in Nylander and Elias Lindholm.
Even though the organization has several quality prospects, the Canadiens will still need reinforcement on the attack in the short term to better support Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Kirby Dach.
The potential arrival of a Nylander or a Lindholm would certainly add a new dimension to the team's attack, but for this to happen, these two players will have to be convinced to sign in Montreal.
