According to them, it's clear that the end-of-season press conference by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton set the tone. This summer, the management will likely accelerate the rebuilding process and bring in an impactful player soon as it enters a new phase.
If Roussel isn't ready to go after this type of player this summer, Lapierre is. He doesn't rule out going after an impact player like Dubois this summer, but puts a caveat on it: it all depends on the price!
Stéphane Waite, who was also part of the discussion, claims that the price for Dubois will be high. The two former players do not entirely agree with this assertion, as all the teams in the league know that the Quebecer wants to play for the Habs. The Jets may have no choice but to accept the Habs' price, even if it's lower than desired, given the circumstances.
However, Kent Hughes will have to sacrifice big names from his lineup, and certainly some young prospects. Several names came up in the discussion, including Logan Mailloux and Justin Barron. Lapierre thinks, however, that Jordan Harris will be the one sacrificed.
However, everything depends, as the guys said in their discussion, on what the Jets are looking for. However, as Lapierre said, they would be foolish to pass on Harris even if they didn't want him initially.
On the other hand, Roussel sees PLD's contribution to the Jets in a completely different way. If he were the team's GM, he would keep the Quebecer until he leaves for complete autonomy. Even if they don't receive anything in return, it would be like keeping a rental player while continuing to sow hope among the club's fans.
Lapierre sums up Roussel's idea very well. It's like having one year left on your car warranty and keeping your car!
It will be interesting to see the approach of both teams in this matter, both from the Jets and the Habs. A case to follow in the coming weeks!
