Even though we are still in the midst of summer and the regular season won't start for another three months, we can already get a small idea of which players from the Montreal Canadiens could potentially be good candidates to be traded at the next trade deadline.

We know that defenseman Joel Edmundson has already left Montreal for Washington, which means we can immediately rule him out. As reported by Marco Normandin from Habsolumentfan.com, there will be two names to keep an eye on during the 2023-2024 season.

According to Sportsnet insider Eric Engels, forward Sean Monahan and defenseman David Savard could bring back an interesting return in a potential trade.

Monahan and Savard, the next ones to leave?

In the case of Monahan, it feels like we're repeating the same story as last year, but with him signing a one-year deal for the modest sum of $1.9 million, he becomes very attractive to teams looking for depth heading into the upcoming playoffs.

As for Savard, he still has two seasons left on his contract with an annual salary of $3.5 million, and similar to Edmundson last year, we can expect some NHL general managers to show interest in his services as a defenseman of his caliber could have significant value.

It's surprising to see him on this list, but the arguments mentioned make sense.

Of course, it's still early to predict what will happen in the next season for the Canadiens, and it will be crucial for both of these veterans to stay healthy, which is far from guaranteed if Kent Hughes decides to offer them on the trade market at the next trade deadline.
