The famous case involving David Reinbacher and Matvei Michkov has resurfaced in the news, just weeks before the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas.

In a recent article, Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels reveals that, according to his sources, Daniel Brière and the Philadelphia Flyers were very interested in acquiring the 5th overall pick from the Montreal Canadiens in 2023.
It wasn't just the Nashville Predators who wanted this pick from Kent Hughes, and many trade offers were made to the Canadiens' general manager.

Daniel Brière had made his choice between Matvei Michkov and David Reinbacher

According to what the Sportsnet journalist observed, notably by discussing with several NHL sources, the Philadelphia Flyers were very interested in obtaining David Reinbacher.
It seems that Reinbacher was ahead of Michkov on Daniel Brière's list, and the Flyers would probably still make the trade today.
And you, would you trade David Reinbacher for Matvei Michkov?
In any case, this information changes everything and explains much better the decision made by Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and the Montreal Canadiens' management.
Reinbacher, 19, has amassed 5 points in 11 games this season with the Laval Rocket and has left a very good impression.
As for Michkov, 19, he remains as mysterious as ever and there are still many uncertainties in his case. His on-ice talent is undeniable, however, as he has scored 41 points in 47 games this season in the KHL. (19 goals)
