As the 2024 NHL draft approaches in six weeks, things are heating up for the Canadiens and Kent Hughes as the market gets busy.
While Montreal would like to secure a 2024 draft pick between the 9th and 15th overall, the New Jersey Devils have just sparked the action.
We love it!
The Devils are putting their first-round pick in the 2024 draft (10th overall) on the trading block!
New Jersey, currently holding the 10th overall pick, has announced that this pick is available for trade.
The last team to make such an announcement was Ottawa with its 7th overall pick in 2022, a pick that the Senators eventually traded for Alex DeBrincat.
Kent Hughes and the Canadiens could thus acquire this pick from the Devils, but they might also use it to land another Kirby Dach.
Recall that in 2022, Montreal had acquired the 13th overall pick, before trading it again to acquire Dach.
Could Montreal acquire the 10th overall pick this year, only to trade it again to get a new Dach, such as Cole Perfetti, Trevor Zegras, Martin Necas, or Marco Rossi?
Stay tuned, but it's certain that Kent Hughes is currently exploring this possibility.
