A new trade could be announced soon with the Calgary Flames, and things are heating up.

Since the famous trade between the Calgary Flames and the Florida Panthers, involving Jonathan Huberdeau and Matthew Tkachuk, and Johnny Gaudreau's departure to Columbus in the summer of 2022, it can't be said that everything is perfect with the Flames.

While Tkachuk and his team are Stanley Cup champions, the Flames have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons, and there are questions about whether the team is beginning a rebuilding cycle.

Moreover, the team has had a new management team for a year now, and even though the Flames organization announced a new arena for 2027, it seems that darker days could be ahead in Calgary in the coming years.

Furthermore, it seems that the team's top scorer in 2023-2024 already has his mind elsewhere.

A trade involving Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau?

As reported by Danslescoulisses, Nazem Kadri, who just scored 75 points with the Flames last season, would be willing to waive his no-trade clause, according to insider David Pagnotta.

Furthermore, Pagnotta would not be surprised if the 33-year-old veteran returned to the Colorado Avalanche, the team with which he won the Stanley Cup in 2022.

«From what I understand, he (Kadri) is ready to waive his no-move clause if the opportunity is appealing to him. I think he would accept a return to Colorado.»

Like Jonathan Huberdeau, he could also be traded.

This is an ideal scenario to start a rebuilding process in Calgary, as Flames GM Craig Conroy could use Kadri to acquire young prospects and draft picks on the trade market.

However, since Nazem Kadri will be 34 when the 2024-2025 season begins and is still under contract for five more years with an annual salary of $7 million, it will be quite difficult for the Flames organization to get good value in return, unless Conroy agrees to retain part of Kadri's salary.

Let's say the situation is pretty much the same as with Jonathan Huberdeau's contract, which many experts consider the «worst» in the NHL.

We can easily expect that the phone won't ring too often in Craig Conroy's office, unless a certain Kent Hughes manages to convince his Flames counterpart to attempt a Sean Monahan-like trade.

To be continued.
