As we reported in the past few hours, a huge piece of news hit the trade market, revealing that the New Jersey Devils have put their 10th overall pick on display.
They are open to trading their valuable first-round pick for immediate help ahead of the 2025 playoffs.
Immediately, several analysts made connections with Arber Xhekaj, especially since Kent Hughes himself traded Alexander Romanov for a 13th overall pick two years ago. (a 13th overall pick that became Kirby Dach following another trade)
It would indeed be a similar transaction, and we know that Kent Hughes is looking for another trade like the one completed with Alexander Romanov:
It's interesting for the Canadiens, but why bring Xhekaj back into the discussion again? Personally, I think we need to keep him!
There is a reason why so many teams want to acquire him.
I believe Kent Hughes should try to acquire this 10th overall pick, but I also think he shouldn't trade Arber Xhekaj.
It's true that New Jersey would greatly need toughness, but Montreal will eventually need it greatly as well.
Could a "package" involving Jayden Struble and other elements interest them? To be continued, but it's not done making waves.
This 10th overall pick from the Devils could then become a Beckett Sennecke, a Tij Iginla, or another equally promising youngster.
The idea of having the 5th and 10th overall picks is interesting, and I sincerely believe that the Canadiens will call the New Jersey GM about this, but I don't think Arber Xhekaj will be involved.
Kent Hughes will have to be even more creative.
And you, what do you think?
In 44 games with the Canadiens this season, Xhekaj has tallied 3 goals and 7 assists for a total of 10 points. He had amassed 11 points in 17 games with the Rocket during his stint with the club earlier this season.
