Darren Dreger Confirms a Trade Between the Canadiens and Penguins Is Very Possible
Renowned insider Darren Dreger has just made an interesting statement regarding the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
As is often the case as the Holidays approach, there is currently a wave of speculation surrounding the NHL trade market.
Two teams frequently mentioned in these speculations, due to circumstances and recent results, are the Canadiens and the Penguins.
Darren Dreger, TSN hockey analyst, links the Canadiens and Penguins for a trade
On TSN 690, Dreger stated that it absolutely makes sense to believe a trade between Montreal and Pittsburgh is logical at the moment.
«What I can tell you is that teams that have struggled or are not quite where they thought they'd be, I'd certainly put Montreal in that group and the Pittsburgh Penguins are even lower down the chain, but in that category, they're having a lot of conversations. It makes sense that you'd see a connection there,» said Dreger.
«The Pittsburgh Penguins have some expiring contracts that aren't going to hurt you for the rest of the year. Maybe you get a sweetener where it makes some sense.
But the fact that the Canadiens are getting healthy, maybe the time to strike with Pittsburgh or someone else will be there soon.» - Dreger
This confirms what insider David Pagnotta also believes.
Additionally, let's recall that Kyle Dubas, the general manager of Sidney Crosby's squad, has been spotted multiple times at the Bell Centre in recent days.
He was likely there for Team Canada, but also for his Penguins.
With the upcoming returns of Patrik Laine and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, there will be a logjam in the forward group for Kent Hughes, while Dubas is specifically looking for reinforcements for his offense.
There could be a possible "match" here.
After the trade that notably involved Jeff Petry, are Montreal and Pittsburgh preparing another deal?
It remains to be seen, but Darren Dreger seems to absolutely believe so.
The good news is that, even though the Canadiens' start to the season is far from perfect, it's certainly not as catastrophic as Pittsburgh's.
And you, what kind of trade would you see as a possibility between the Pens and the Habs?
