Frank Seravalli even added that Kent Hughes is looking to add a top-4, right-shot defenseman.
Finding a defenseman of that calibre in October is already challenging, but a new obstacle seems to be complicating Kent Hughes' search.
Indeed, according to David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period, the Islanders are reportedly seeking almost the same thing.
The season is still young, but Patrick Roy's team hasn't had the best start. They have a record of 4-6-2 (10 points), placing them 7th in the Metropolitan Division. With injuries to Mike Reilly and Alexander Romanov, along with Adam Pelech's long-term absence, veteran Lou Lamoriello will surely want to revamp his lineup sooner rather than later.
One thing that may benefit Hughes here is his flexibility with the salary cap; something Lamoriello doesn't quite have. But does Hughes still want a defenseman?
The club's recent struggles might have altered the GM's plans. The focus might now shift toward an energy forward, as the team has been somewhat lifeless. Recent rumors have even mentioned Samuel Blais, Liam O'Brien, and Nicolas Deslauriers.
One thing is certain: whether it's a defenseman or an energy forward, the Habs desperately need a bit of a shake-up.
