As reported by several sources, including Maxime Truman (DLC), and as we mentioned in the following text:
The Montreal Canadiens would like to acquire a tough player.
After a huge list of 59 players placed on NHL waivers yesterday, today, only one name is available.
Forward Austin Watson, who just signed a one-year contract worth $776,665 with Detroit, is currently available for free.
He is on waivers.
Believe it or not, Watson was the 18th overall pick by the Nashville Predators in 2010 (1st round pick), and he has accumulated 118 points in 515 career NHL games, along with 705 penalty minutes.
Do you think this would be a good way for Kent Hughes to quickly and easily get the tough forward he's looking for?
Austin Watson, 32 years old, is a 6-foot-4, 238-pound forward.
Last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he accumulated 93 penalty minutes in 33 games, and 123 penalty minutes in 75 games the previous season with the Ottawa Senators.
We will know by 2 p.m. today whether he has been claimed off NHL waivers or not.
If Kent Hughes truly wants to add a tough guy, a real enforcer, we can also think about Mathieu Olivier of the Columbus Blue Jackets, but in his case, it would have to be through a trade.
Quickly returning to Austin Watson, he is the Sens player who dropped the gloves with Arber Xhekaj (twice) and with Michael Pezzetta a few months ago.
Habs fans also got to know him during the preseason games against Ottawa.
More details to follow.
