The Anaheim Ducks might be obliged to acquire a player like Josh Anderson, presenting a golden opportunity for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

As reported by my colleague Keven Mawn, the Canadiens might find their ideal trade partner in Anaheim to offload "bad" contracts like those of Anderson or Christian Dvorak.

The Anaheim Ducks Are in Trouble

The Ducks are indeed $8.8 million below the NHL salary floor, a significant shortfall.

«The Anaheim Ducks are $8.8 million under the cap and haven't signed a single free agent. What's the plan?» - Drew Livingstone

Therefore, they must acquire nearly $9 million in salary by October.

Knowing how keen Kent Hughes is on such opportunities (as seen with the Sean Monahan trade with the Calgary Flames), it wouldn't surprise me if he attempts something here.

«An opportunity for Josh Anderson. Anaheim will still have several players on their entry-level contracts for the next three seasons and could accommodate Josh Anderson's contract, which could fit the team's style.»

Anderson is indeed the type of player who could really match the Ducks' style of play, and the Ducks could truly appreciate him.

And they are obliged to acquire a player of this kind!

This is a situation to watch.

Josh Anderson, 30 years old, 6 feet 3 inches, and 225 pounds, amassed 20 points in 78 games this season, including nine goals. In his NHL career, he has 223 points, including 131 goals, in 535 games.

Anderson is signed through 2027 at $5.5 million per year.
