While the Carolina Hurricanes had a rather eventful offseason, notably losing the services of Jake Guentzel, Teuvo Teravainen, Stefan Noesen, Brady Skjei, and Brett Pesce, the organization decided to keep the Czech forward, despite numerous trade rumors surrounding him.
Necas eventually agreed to a two-year contract with the Hurricanes worth $13 million.
As you know, the Canadiens showed some interest in him, and some fans were confident he would land in Montreal this fall.
However, as reported by the site HabsolumentFan, it appears that Kent Hughes was not necessarily among the finalists.
In fact, in a recent episode of the podcast 32 Thoughts, it was mentioned that Necas confirmed he received a lot of interest from several teams, naming two that were very serious: the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets.
It's quite interesting to see the Blue Jackets among these two teams because Kent Hughes eventually turned to them to acquire the top forward he was seeking in Patrik Laine.
In the case of the Jets, it can be presumed that prospect Rutger McGroarty was part of the discussions, but it's likely that the Hurricanes had too high of demands for both organizations.
However, since Martin Necas only signed a two-year contract, Don Waddell probably has a well-thought-out plan in mind.
