In his daily column on BPM Sports, journalist Mathias Brunet highlighted an interesting point.
It's thanks to two very successful trades with the Philadelphia Flyers that the Habs today have two particular players in its lineup.
We're talking here about Cayden Primeau, precisely, and also about the Quebecois forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
Primeau, 24 years old, was drafted with the 199th overall pick (in the 7th round) of the 2017 draft.
But in 2017, the Canadiens didn't have a seventh-round pick.
Indeed, it's thanks to a trade concluded with the Flyers, that Montreal was able to get its hands on this 199th overall pick and thus draft Cayden Primeau.
From what Brunet mentions, it seems that goalie Primeau was very high on the CH's list that year, possibly at the level of second-round picks!
That's not all
Another similar trade brought an interesting player to the Habs.
During the 2019 draft, still in the seventh round, the Canadiens were able to draft Rafaël Harvey-Pinard thanks to an identical trade with those same Philadelphia Flyers!
In summary, thanks to two trades involving seventh-round picks, the Flyers have enabled the Montreal Canadiens to acquire Cayden Primeau and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
Solid!
