It is no secret that several veterans could leave the ship in the coming weeks in the Canadiens' entourage. In addition to Ben Chiarot, defender Jeff Petry is also likely to find himself under other skies.

Analyst Yvon Pedneault, from TVA Sports, has also identified a defender to whom Jeff Gorton and the future GM of the team could be interested to replace him. This is John Klingberg, who is clearly no longer in the good graces of the Dallas Stars.

Klingberg simply wants to leave. He is no longer in the good graces of management. "Why not turn Petry over to the Stars in return for Klingberg?», Pedneault said during his column on JiC.

The 29-year-old Klingberg is a purely offensive defenseman, who had racked up 17 points (one goal) in 28 games ahead of Friday night's NHL games. He had his best campaign in the 2017-18 season, earning 67 points.

In addition, the final year of a seven-year contract, worth $4.25 million annually, is $2 million less than Jeff Petry. Should the Stars be interested in acquiring a veteran like Petry, this may be the foundation for one of the first big moves of the new Canadiens management.
