This is obviously devastating news for the franchise and will seriously hamper their ability to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. The 31-year-old goalie has had little ice time since arriving in Vegas in 2020. First, because he was fighting for ice time with Marc-Andre Fleury, he later battled an injury. Now it appears his injuries have caught up with him enough that he needs a full season to recover.
That's all it took for the trade rumors to come in and, of course, the CH got involved. Many immediately thought that Jake Allen could be the perfect fit in Vegas to replace Lehner.
TSN 1200 columnist and former NHL player and pro scout Shawn Simpson, however, disagrees. He doesn't see Vegas making a trade to acquire Allen...
Simpson thinks that the solution could be in Montreal for Vegas goalies. The one who was also a GM of an AHL team believes that Price or Sergei Bobrovsky could end up with the Golden Knights.
However, Kent Hughes would have to agree to keep some salary in this transaction. Knowing that Price is 34 years old and his future is uncertain due to injuries, one has to wonder if Vegas really wants to make a four-year commitment to him. However, one must not forget that Vegas is excellent at making controversial and rather crazy personnel moves to say the least.
A case to follow... One thing is certain, if any team can make such a "move", it's Vegas.
