The Montreal Canadiens' offense really isn't going through the motions defensively this year. The top scorer among CH defensemen is Chris Wideman with his nine points in 22 games.
Does that give you an idea of how bad the team is?
If you look at the Minnesota Wild scoring column, you'll see a certain Jon Merrill with ten points (two goals and eight assists). Yes, it's the Jon Merrill who played with the CH last year.
Remember that he is known for his skills in the defensive zone, as we have seen during his time here. He's not the sexiest guy on the ice, but he keeps his game simple and it pays off.
He has more points than any Tricolore defenseman this year. It's almost embarrassing. With all the injuries on the blue line, I seriously wonder if the CH should have offered new contracts to the Erik Gustafsson and Jon Merrill of this world...
They probably wouldn't have been harmful under the current circumstances.
