Former Montreal Canadiens first round pick in 2014, Nikita Scherbak, has found himself a job, but not in North America. This one has agreed with the Banská Bystrica team in Slovakia for one season.
The Russian winger spent the last season with the Texas Stars, the AHL training club of the Dallas Stars. He scored 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 28 games.
Recall that Scherbak is struggling to find stability since he left the Montreal Canadiens organization in 2018. He lined up for 8 games with the Los Angeles Kings, before being demoted to the AHL to finish the season in 2018-2019. After that, he had a one-season stint in the KHL, playing with two teams in the process, including the Omsk Avangard and Chrlyabinsk Traktor. Last year, as mentioned above, he played with the Texas Stars, with whom he did not enjoy the success he had hoped for.
Scherbak is obviously at a crossroads in his goal to reach the NHL. He probably won't get a chance to return to North America unless he gets some great stats in Slovakia.
